A Chikki a Day — Nostalgia, Nourishment, and a Bite of Love

Chikki has always been more than just a sweet treat for me — it’s a piece of my childhood, packed with memories and care. Amma used to fill airtight jars with her homemade chikkis and say, “Don’t reach for the candy or chocolate, have a bite of this nourishing bar instead.”
Even when we travelled to our native village, the little shop by the main road always had a big chikki jar sitting proudly among other goodies — a symbol of comfort and simple joy. Peanut chikki was always my favourite, but it became more than just a treat as I grew older.

I still remember my teenage years, watching Amma transition through her menopausal phase. Her doctor had advised her to have a piece of sesame chikki every day — rich in calcium, iron, and magnesium, it became her natural supplement. Slowly, these chikkis became part of my own luggage too. Wherever I went, a jar of them followed — they never lasted long, though.
When I started working (back in 2008), we didn’t have fancy “energy bars” or “refuel snacks.” For me, chikki was the energy bar — simple, wholesome, and full of goodness. Even today, I tell my mom and mother-in-law, “Don’t pop calcium pills — just have a bite of chikki!” It’s nature’s own nutrition bar, crafted with love.
Now, as I step into my own perimenopause phase, I feel those subtle changes too. Not everything can be perfectly balanced, but some choices help us sail through with grace — and for me, chikki is one of them. It’s comfort, nourishment, and a reminder that taking care of ourselves doesn’t have to be complicated.

At ANO, we’ve kept this tradition alive with our unique twist —
✨ Peanut Chikki,
✨ Pumpkin Seed Chikki, and
✨ Sesame Chikki —
all made with pure jaggery, and completely vegan.
Each variant is a blend of nostalgia and nourishment — a snack that fits every age and stage of life. Whether it’s a school kid reaching for a quick bite, a woman balancing work and health, or a grandma enjoying her evening tea — a chikki a day truly keeps you healthy and happy.
