Farming is never a predictable journey. It’s a delicate dance with nature—sometimes it rewards you with bountiful harvests, other times, it challenges you in ways you could never anticipate. Recently, our farm faced one such challenge. After an unexpected and devastating flood, we lost our beloved turmeric crop. But as we often find in farming, with loss comes the potential for new beginnings. And this time, nature surprised us in a way we didn’t expect.
When the floods hit, it was disheartening. Our turmeric, which had been thriving just weeks before, was completely washed out. It was a tough loss—one that stung deeply. But as we walked through the fields to assess the damage, we were met with an unexpected sight. While the floodwaters had wreaked havoc on the crops, they had also brought with them something valuable: a layer of fertile, soft soil, rich in nutrients and ready to nurture a new crop.
It was as if nature had given us a second chance, offering us a perfect foundation to grow something new. This fertile layer of soil was a reminder of how even in the face of adversity, there’s always a glimmer of hope—a chance to start afresh.
Inspired by the fresh layer of soft soil, we decided to plant something new in these fields—Desi Corn. Known for its robust flavor and versatility, desi corn is a staple in many parts of India. It’s the kind of crop that thrives in a variety of conditions and adds an earthy, natural taste to everything from traditional snacks to savory dishes.
Looking forward, we can’t help but feel excited about the prospects of this new venture. Desi corn isn’t just delicious—it’s versatile. Some of the harvest will be used for delicious, tender cobs that we’ll enjoy in a variety of ways, from grilling to boiling, topped with a sprinkle of spice. But we’re also saving a portion of the corn for a different purpose: popcorn kernels.
Yes, you read that right—popcorn! There’s something incredibly satisfying about making your own popcorn from corn grown right on your farm. The kernels will be harvested, dried, and stored for that perfect, crunchy snack. It’s a special treat we can’t wait to share with friends and family, and a reminder of how even in times of challenge, we can create something special.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our farming journey and embrace the beauty of nature’s cycles.
